Using the Catalogue
Type in a keyword search term or terms in the Search box by using either of these online locations:
a) Main website - http://www.lclibrary.ca - Use the 'Search Catalogue' box located at the top left-hand side of the page.
b) Catalogue - http://my.lclibrary.ca - Use the 'Enter your keywords' box located in the upper right-hand corner under 'Search for Books and More'.
Note: Common words will produce a lot of search results. The keyword "index" has titles of books, authors, subjects, summaries and more stored in it. Any material that has these words or a combination of them will be returned in the search results.
Managing Search Result List
Use the following functions to manage and restrict your results.
a) Options - Located at the top right-hand side of the screen
i) Sort by: Use the drop box to sort by author, title or year
ii) Titles per page: The amounts of titles displayed per page can be changed from the default of 10 to 20 or 50.
b) Advanced and Expert Searching - Located on the right-hand side of the search box. Note: these options become available only after a keyword search has been performed.
Located mid screen on the left-hand side and continue to the bottom of the screen. Use these groups of filters to further restrict the results. The number in brackets indicates the amount of material available. Filters include Restrict by:
- Material Type
- Publishing Date
- Date Added
- Location (Library Branches)
- Availability (unavailability could be due to still in processing, currently reserved, etc.)
- Subject Keyword
Beside each item on the Search result list is a box that can be clicked and checked for further features in the Options menu. These features allow you to store, print, send selections by email, and more. They can also be found on the record details. Note: Some of these features require the user to Sign in.
Clicking on the item will open up its details which include a summary, current reservations, where the item is located and more. Also included, for book items only, is a feature from NoveList that lists titles and authors similar to the selected book.
