LC Library Events for January 2018

Wyoming, ON – Lambton County Library's annual Spread the Words program, an event that encourages families to read together and discover the wonderful world of books, begins January 27, 2018 at all branches. Authors featured this year are the late Amy Krouse Rosenthal, for children ages 8 and under, and Avi, an author for older children. Books listed on the Freedom to Read Challenged Book List are also included. This event begins on Family Literacy Day, celebrates World Read-Aloud Day on February 1, and finishes on the last day of Freedom to Read Week, Saturday, March 3. Participants have an opportunity to win prizes by entering their name in a draw for each book read independently or together as a family. Entries can be submitted via the library's website at www.lclibrary.ca or by filling out a ballot at your local branch library. 

Children's prizes include:

  • One prize pack of books by Amy Krouse Rosenthal with a fun family activity in Lambton County
  • One prize pack of books by Avi with a fun family activity in Lambton County

Adult prizes includes:

  • One of four $25 gift cards for The Book Keeper or the Kineto Theatre in Forest.

 Freedom to Read Week is an annual event encouraging Canadians to be aware of books and magazines that have been challenged or removed from libraries, schools and bookstores and reaffirming their commitment to intellectual freedom. For more information visit www.freedomtoread.ca.

New preschool sessions begin the week of January 15 at most Lambton County Library branches. Tales for Tots is a 30 minute program designed for children ages three and under and their caregivers. Story Hour is a one hour program for three to five-year-olds and their caregivers. Included are songs, stories, fingerplays, activities, and crafts developed to stimulate and create an early interest in reading. Sessions are generally six weeks in length.

A number of instructional workshops, for ages 10 to adult, are available on the laser cutter, sewing machine, 3D printer, Silhouette die-cutter, book binder and button maker.
