Family Literacy Day Festival at Sarnia Library and Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery
Wyoming, ON – Lambton County Library invites families to celebrate literacy and learning at the second annual Family Literacy Day Festival. The event will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., jointly hosted at the Sarnia Library (124 Christina St S, Sarnia) and Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery (147 Lochiel St, Sarnia).
The festival's main feature will be two free, live performances by Dan the Music Man, a Toronto-based songwriter and entertainer, who will perform two 30-minute shows at Sarnia Library Theatre, at 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Attendees can also enjoy face painting, try retro gaming, and create an air-dry clay pendant, among other offerings.
“Family Literacy Day Festival celebrates the joy of learning,” said Vanitia Campbell, Public Services Coordinator, Youth Programs and Outreach with Lambton County Library. “Family literacy encompasses any activity that enhances your child's reading, thinking and listening skills. These learning activities include playing games, singing and dancing, preparing meals, and reading together. When children and caregivers engage in learning activities, they develop skills for long-term well-being in school and life.”
The festival will also feature a Literacy Fair at Sarnia Library with activities and information tables hosted by community groups including Literacy Lambton, Lambton Learns, Lambton County Children's Services, Lambton Public Health, and Boys and Girls Club Sarnia-Lambton, among others. The activities will celebrate togetherness, discovery, and the joy of learning.
Registration is not required, and all activities are offered at no cost. Visit LCLibrary.ca/Family-Literacy-Day for the full schedule of events at both Sarnia Library and the Judith and Norman Alix Art Gallery.
Family Literacy Day has been celebrated annually across Canada since 1999. It is dedicated to creating awareness of the significance of reading and participating in literacy-related activities as a family and community.
