New Chapter for Lambton County Library as Curbside Pickup Set to Launch
Wyoming, ON - While all Lambton County Library locations remain closed under provincial order, plans are in place to offer contactless curbside pickup service at select locations starting Monday, June 8, 2020.
On May 14, Premier Ford announced details related to Stage 1 of the provincial framework to reopen the province, which included the lifting of restrictions for libraries to allow for curbside pickup service. Lambton County Library has been actively planning for a return to modified operations with the development of a gradual, phased reopening strategy that includes the implementation of a new contactless curbside pickup service at designated libraries.
"We're pleased to be able to resume service delivery at some of our library locations," says Lambton County Warden Bill Weber. "Staff are working hard to finalize details surrounding the contactless curbside pickup service. Once the service begins, I ask that all library patrons diligently follow instructions for service and take the proper precautions to protect themselves and others."
Preliminary plans aim to offer curbside service at the Alvinston, Bright's Grove, Corunna, Florence, Forest, Mallroad, Oil Springs, Petrolia, Point Edward, Sombra, Thedford, Watford and Wyoming locations effective Monday, June 8, 2020. The number of openings will hinge on the ability to secure required personal protective equipment and cleaning supplies, and on workforce availability. Details about the finalized locations, hours of operation, and how to access materials will be confirmed in early June.
Ongoing accessibility improvements taking place at Lambton County Library's largest location in downtown Sarnia preclude it from offering curbside pickup at this time.
"Our priority remains the health and safety of employees and patrons as we gradually reactivate services," said Andrew Meyer, General Manager, Cultural Services. "Each facility will be supported by instructional signage for patrons, and physical distancing measures will be in place in compliance with public health guidance and the guidelines related to curbside pickup developed by the province."
The County of Lambton's other cultural facilities, including the Judith and Norman Alix Art Gallery, Lambton Heritage Museum, Oil Museum of Canada National Historic Site, and the Lambton County Archives remain closed under provincial order.
