One Seed Lambton selects Dark Green Zucchini for 2024
Wyoming, ON – Lambton County Library has announced the Dark Green Zucchini is its seed selection for its annual One Seed Lambton program, which offers free seed packets of the selected garden seed at all public libraries in Lambton, available now, while supplies last.
One Seed Lambton aims to empower residents with free resources and knowledge necessary to help them grow their own food. Library users can simply visit any Lambton County Library location to collect their One Seed packet for free. This year’s selection, Dark Green Zucchini, is a high-yielding heirloom variety perfect for small spaces and container gardens.
To complement the seed distribution, One Seed Lambton workshops, led by community experts, will be held at select Lambton County Library locations. These workshops will cover a range of topics including planting techniques, seed saving, and more.
Aslan Organics will share professional tips for starting a garden from seed.
Learn about growing edible perennials from permaculture expert, Michael Schimp.
Learn about traditional harvesting protocols and early-season seed collection for conservation from Maajiigin Gumig, a native plant greenhouse focusing on growing native plants for the Aamjiwnaang community and surrounding Sarnia Lambton Area.
Discover the abundance of flavours unique to the region, and learn how embracing locally sourced ingredients, or growing one’s own, can transform health and well-being with Erin M'Larkey, RD of Kitchen Witch Nutrition.
Learn about preparing and cooking zucchini with Chef Shannon Scully and enjoy a buffet-style tasting of zucchini-based dishes.
Learn the techniques for saving seeds from seed maturation to harvesting, drying, and storing from a certified seed collector, Michael Schimp. Schimp will also guide participants through end-of-season garden care and how to prepare gardens for the winter.
In addition to the One Seed Lambton program, Lambton County Library also offers a Seed Library with over 60 vegetable and flower seeds available for borrowing. Visit lclibrary.ca/seedlibrary to see the collection.
