SARNIA, ON - Lambton County Library and Call2Recycle Canada have diverted 324 kilograms of batteries from landfills for proper recycling through the Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program in the first 18 months of their partnership.
Since April, 2023 12 Lambton County Library locations have hosted Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! battery collection boxes, making it convenient for residents to responsibly dispose of their used batteries. The program recently welcomed Steve Gauthier, Key Account Manager from Call2Recycle, to the Sarnia Library to recognize this achievement.
"This initiative demonstrates how libraries can expand their role as community hubs beyond traditional services," says Greer Macdonell, Community Library Supervisor, Lambton County Library. "By making battery recycling easily accessible to our patrons, we're not only promoting environmental responsibility but also providing an essential service that benefits the entire community."
The collection results demonstrate strong community participation:
- 277 kilograms of single-use batteries
- 61 kilograms of rechargeable batteries
“We’re very pleased to partner with Lambton County and support its battery recycling objectives,” said Sophie Zabonas-Ross, Director of Account Management at Call2Recycle Canada. “Through this collaboration, and similar ones with many other municipalities across Canada, we help grow sustainable and responsible communities, and build a stronger circular economy in Canada.”
Lambton County residents can drop off their used single-use and rechargeable household batteries (weighing up to 5 kg each) at the following 12 Lambton County Library locations: Alvinston, Brigden, Bright’s Grove, Clearwater, Corunna, Forest, Grand Bend, Petrolia, Point Edward, Sarnia, Watford, and Wyoming.
