Lambton's Creative County Grant program supports 23 initiatives for 2019
Wyoming, ON - Lambton's Creative County Grant Program will be supporting 23 local arts, cultural, and heritage projects in 2019.
At a recent meeting, the Creative County Committee approved $126,325 in funding support, contributing to an estimated investment of over $1.47M in local cultural investment by various community organizations. The grant funds will support the following initiatives:
- $10,000 to Tourism Sarnia-Lambton to support the heritage event 2019 Tall Ships Challenge® Great Lakes 2019 race series.
- $12,000 to the South Western International Film Festival for films, student workshops, live concerts, artist Q&As, and virtual reality offerings throughout 2019.
- $7,800 to Pathways Health Centre for Children for ARTZone @ ARTZscape featuring live art displays from across the community.
- $900 for the expansion of a recently created intergenerational Community Choir.
- $2,400 for the Chiaroscuro Workshop Series - the live creation of 10 portrait paintings accompanied by the telling of 12 local stories.
- $6,000 to the Town of Petrolia for a series of puppet show performances, meet-and-greets, and puppet creation workshops for children and families at Victoria Playhouse Petrolia.
- $4,750 for 'Learning to Grow & Growing to Learn', a horticultural therapy program.
- $1,500 to the Optimist Club of Ausable Port Franks for an art exhibition and sale for youth ages 8 through 18.
- $3,000 to the Township of St. Clair and Heritage St. Clair for the installation of signage marking the early hamlets and villages of St. Clair Township.
- $3,125 to the Sombra Museum for a historical village ghost tour and a walking tour map for Sombra village.
- $2,400 for the House Concert Series at the Lawrence House Centre for the Arts.
- $6,250 to Jazz and Blues in the Village for a free, Saturday afternoon matinee aimed at getting the community together for a family-focused afternoon of local music.
- $7,500 to the Optimist Club of Forest for the Junior Lambton Film & Food Festival Camp, an annual summer food camp at the Optimist Hall in Forest open to local youth ages 13 to 19 and taught by local chefs, using local farms, and preparing local dishes.
- $2,825 for the Lambton Memorial Fiddle Contest.
- $4,725 for 'Me, You, & Us', a three day art workshop followed by a celebration of publicly exhibited portraits.
- $5,000 to Theatre Sarnia for the Rising Stars Youth Theatre program.
- $10,000 for the integration of local talent in Sarnia/Lambton Bluewater BorderFest Music Festival, featuring a mix of rock, classic rock, and country music.
- $3,450 for the production of a historical documentary film tracing the story of Elizabeth Workman of Sarnia.
- $6,000 to Kettle & Stony Point First Nation Education Services to support the creation of a large Ojibway art mural by students, to be installed at Hillside Elementary School.
- $15,000 to Electric Motion Pictures for the local production of 'The Ace and the Scout', a historical film documenting stories related to Canada's involvement in the First World War.
- $5,200 for 'The Young Canuckstorian Project', engaging 7 young writers in the development and illustration of a graphic novel tracing the history of Lambton County
- $5,000 to the Margaret Stokes IODE to support the Petrolia Victoria Porch Luncheon and walking tour event.
- $1,500 to the West Coast Lions Club of Grand Bend for Wednesdays' Familiar Favourites - Grand Bend beach concerts.
The Creative County Grant Program was launched in 2013 to support innovative projects that build cultural capacity, strengthen the creative community, define the County's unique identity and enrich the quality of life of all residents. The program provides up to 50% of total project costs for new arts, culture and heritage initiatives across the County.
