Phragmites informaiton session at Forest Library

Forest, ON – The Lambton Shores Phragmites Community Group will be hosting an information session entitled 'Managing Phragmites in Lambton Shores: A Landscape Approach' at the Forest Library. The drop-in event will take place on Wednesday, May 9, from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

"Phragmites has no natural predator," explains Cathy Martin, Branch Coordinator for Lambton Shores Region libraries. "This session will shed light on the various projects the group is involved in to control and reduce phragmites and restore wetland habitat and beaches in Port Franks, Grand Bend, Ipperwash, and other provincially significant sites."

Phragmites is an alien, invasive grass with origins in Europe and Asia. In the past decade it has found its way to some of Lake Huron's beaches, damaging their ecosystems as it takes over. Phragmites is listed under Ontario Invasive Species Act.
